The Dissent

The Hanford Site produced the Nagasaki plutonium and is the most contaminated nuclear site in the Western Hemisphere. Ada finds a 1966 internal AEC memo documenting groundwater contamination reaching the Columbia River — classified for 26 years. She is not investigating the contamination. She is investigating the 1966 decision meeting at which seven officials voted on disclosure. Six voted to suppress. One filed a formal dissent. The dissent was also classified. Ada finds that official's daughter, who has the original signed dissent.
