The Evacuation

During WWII, the US forcibly evacuated 881 Aleut people to abandoned cannery ruins in Southeast Alaska. Twenty-two percent died in relocation. Ada finds a classified 1943 War Department inspection report rating the holding facilities 'substandard for human habitation' — forwarded to the Secretary of War and marked received. No action was taken. The inspector submitted three follow-up memos. Ada tracks the fourth — the one he sent outside government channels.
