The Trial

Seven police officers died in the Haymarket bombing. Eight anarchists were tried. Four were executed. No evidence ever connected any defendant to the bomb. Ada finds the presiding judge's personal annotated trial transcript — held by his family and never released. One annotation on the prosecution's key witness reads: 'Coached. I allowed it. Record must never reflect this.' Ada finds the judge's great-granddaughter, who does not know what she has.
