The Town

In January 1923, the town of Rosewood was destroyed by a white mob and its Black residents killed or displaced. The official death count was eight. Ada finds the Levy County sheriff's private log recording 27 names — and the men who led each night of violence, and one entry noting a specific instruction came by telephone from the state capital. The call log for the governor's office that week is missing three pages. Ada finds the switchboard operator's personally kept record.
